![]() Of course, Parallels Desktop is available in multiple editions, with the Pro and Business variants geared towards professionals and enterprises respectively. Once it is active, all applications in your Windows VM will appear in separate windows directly on your Mac’s desktop, almost as if they were running natively on macOS. If you want to take things one step further, just enable Coherence Mode. Sharing files between your Mac and Windows VM could not be easier, as files on the desktop are instantly accessible from either OS, no matter where they were created. MacBook Pro users can add Windows apps to the Touch Bar, Office integration lets documents in Safari open in their native Windows apps, and full support is available for Retina displays for the best visual experience. The Windows 10 Test and Development environments are available for free, as are numerous Linux flavors and Android, and you can even install macOS from the recovery partition or convert a Boot Camp installation to a VM.Īside from installing Windows via Boot Camp, which isn’t likely to be supported on Apple Silicon, Parallels offers possibly the most seamless experience when running another operating system on your Mac. If you skip the initial Win10 wizard, Parallels still has an installation assistant that can help you set up Windows, Linux, and many other operating systems. It only takes a few clicks and absolutely no technical knowledge. ![]() For instance, if you want a Windows 10 VM, the startup wizard guides you through the entire process. ![]() Compared to alternatives like VirtualBox or VMware, it is much easier to create a virtual machine and install an OS. Much of the process is automated, and the virtualized OSes integrate well with macOS.Īnyone can start up a virtual machine with Parallels This app allows you to Run Windows, various flavors of Linux, ChromeOS, Android, and many other operating systems in virtual machines, and it makes setting up and configuring these VMs incredibly straightforward. There are quite a few options out there for Mac users who want to run other operating systems on their Apple devices, but none are quite as intuitive and novice-friendly as Parallels. Parallels Desktop 18 is one of the oldest and most popular applications for virtualization on macOS. Parallels Desktop Business Edition 19.0.0 (54570) Multilingual macOS Apart from the vague "it's an ARM thing".Īnyway, I'll continue along and continue to enjoy the software which works brilliantly.Download Parallels Desktop. I would like to say again, I'm not trying to be a nuisance about this I'm just trying to figure out what is causing the Update failure. Am I the only person in the world that is seeing this? I know all of the Affinity Apps run on Windows 11 on the M2 in Parallels set up perfectly. Is there a Log file I can watch to try and catch what it is that the process is falling over? Are the developers able to catch it on their test bed? Are they able to watch the process happening? Now I know that the M2 has a few anomalies that can be insurmountable in cross-platform behaviour but affecting only the Install Update part of the process seems a little odd. It's just the Install Update part of the process from the Update menu of the installed app that's broken. So, okay, go to Serif and download the files, open them and they Update the installed versions fine no worries. That's when I get the "Can't Install Update" error as shown in the video above. The old Toshiba L630 Laptop Windows 10 is now about 20 years old and just doesn't cut the mustard any more, so I needed a fast Windows so I can still do work for my Youtube channel on Windows in addition to the Mac and iPad versions. On top of that, I'm also running Parallels Desktop so I can use Windows 11 for the Windows versions of Affinity. I'm running a MacOS 13.5.2 (22G91) M2Mini with 26GB RAM etc etc. Oh, I might add, that I fully understand the various limitations of mixing software on a single platform, and I'm not at all complaining or anything, just discussing really so here goes. Let me detail exactly what I'm running here first. I'm wondering if I can ask a question or two. ![]() The failure to update in app is unfortunately one of those compatability issues. Unfortunately only Windows 11 ARM edition works on Apple M devices via Parallels and as we do not support ARM editions of Windows 11 - you're likely to run into a few compatability issues. Am I correct that you're still running Windows 11 on an M2 Mac? Hi Harry, Just had a look at your post history to see if I can find out what Mac you're using and saw your post here.
